Oasis Redux
You know that saying about the snowflake that starts an avalanche? The armchair was my snowflake. I thought it would be the finishing touch that brought everything in the master bedroom together in a concert of coziness, but it only highlighted the existing lack of harmony lurking elusively in the background.
Once again, the problem was my Vanilla Sugar paint in conjunction with the browns and blues. Since I was already testing paint samples to repaint the guest room, I was careful to find a color that behaved well in both spaces to minimize the possibility of our home looking like an Easter basket. Happily, Waterfall by Behr worked perfectly.
A little too perfectly. I had to do something to break up the blue. Enter macramé and burlap lamp shades. I love how they add just a touch of boho without going over the top.
All of the lamp shades I loved were out of my price range, however, my addiction to stenciling came to my rescue. All I did was paint the banding around the top and bottom of some cheap shades I found at Walmart and stencil around the middle
A big selling point for this color was the elegant back drop if created for the cheval mirror. In case it hasn’t become painfully obvious by now, I love that blue, brown, and white combo. I know, the early 2000s called and want their trend back. I don’t care - I’m keeping it.
This blue also showcases the windows, instead of causing them to blend in to a bland, beige blob.
I love the way it brings the wine crate gallery wall to life and just brings more light to the space in general.
And best of all, this color really does make my comfy chair feel like a place I can go to rest and feel refreshed.
For me, making a home I love really is a process. Just when I think I’m putting the finishing touches on a spaces, those “finishing touches” turn out to be snowflakes that cause an avalanche of new ideas.
